Folks, the scammers are still hard at work… unfortunately, not at a real job. Today’s masterpiece? A “final notice” dressed up to look official, complete with big words, bold threats, and even a fancy QR code to make it feel legit. Truth is, they just swapped out yesterday’s script for today’s version and hoped nobody would notice.

Let me be clear:
Mississippi courts are not sending you surprise “final notices” demanding immediate payment through a random QR code. If it smells fishy, looks rushed, and threatens you into panic… it’s probably a scam.

Here’s your quick reality check:
✔️ Courts don’t pressure you to pay instantly via QR codes
✔️ Official notices don’t read like a last-chance game show
✔️ Scammers love urgency — because thinking ruins their plan

We’re going to keep putting these out as long as they keep trying, because protecting our citizens is part of the job we actually do show up for every day.

And to the folks making these… we encourage you to consider a bold new career path — one that involves an application, a supervisor, and maybe even a time clock.

Stay alert, Pike County. If you’re unsure about something like this, call us before you scan or send a dime.

— Sheriff Bryant Wally Jones

Traffic Stop Leads to Major Fentanyl Seizure on Interstate 55

On April 17, 2026, at approximately 2:12 PM, Sheriff Bryant Wally Jones of the Pike County Sheriff’s Office attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a dark gray Honda Civic traveling northbound on Interstate 55, just north of the Summit exit.

The driver, identified as Tremail Richardson of Brookhaven, Mississippi, failed to stop and continued northbound before exiting at Dixie Springs. While on the exit ramp, a large quantity of suspected fentanyl pills was thrown from the passenger window of vehicle.

The vehicle came to a stop shortly thereafter, and Richardson was taken into custody without further incident. The passenger, identified as Berangton Wells of Wesson, Mississippi, was also taken into custody at the scene.

Richardson has been charged with multiple traffic violations, as well as fleeing/eluding law enforcement. Both Richardson and Wells have been charged with felony controlled substance violations related to the suspected fentanyl.

This seizure is believed to be one of the largest fentanyl recoveries in Pike County history. Fentanyl continues to be a dangerous and deadly drug contributing to numerous overdose deaths across our communities.

Sheriff Jones stated, “Fentanyl is claiming lives at an alarming rate. We remain committed to proactively and aggressively combating illegal drugs and crime in Pike County. Cases like this highlight the importance of strong law enforcement partnerships.”

Sheriff Jones would like to thank the deputies of the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, investigators with the Pike County Gang Unit, the Mississippi Highway Patrol, and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics for their assistance in apprehending the suspects and conducting the investigation.

The investigation remains ongoing. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.

This important meeting brought together regional law enforcement leaders to collaborate, share ideas, and strengthen partnerships focused on enhancing public safety across our communities. By working together, these agencies continue to build a unified approach to addressing challenges and protecting the citizens we proudly serve.

A couple of Chiefs also stepped in to represent agencies whose Sheriffs were unable to attend, and we sincerely appreciate their participation and support.

We are grateful for the commitment and cooperation of all involved as we continue moving forward together.

A special thanks to Mrs. Debbie at Oak Hill Estates for supporting the Pike County Sheriff's Office.

We are pleased to announce a Baptismal Ceremony held at the Pike County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center. This meaningful event was conducted by Chaplain Brother Doug Hughes, a member of First Baptist Church of Summit.

During the ceremony, Brother Doug also presented the inmate with a Bible, symbolizing the beginning of a new spiritual journey.

A special thank you to the inmate’s grandmother, who attended the ceremony and shared in this significant and heartfelt moment.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Pike County Sheriff’s Office Leadership Team for supporting this amazing and life-changing event. Your commitment to not only public safety, but also to the rehabilitation and spiritual well-being of those in your care, is truly commendable.

May this new chapter bring transformation, hope, and renewed purpose to the inmate and serve as a powerful example of God’s grace at work.

“The Pike County Detention Center staff and myself desire to provide an environment for inmates that encourages and supports their rehabilitation and spiritual growth.”
— Major Jewel Hines, Pike County Detention Center Administrator

“Again, I made a promise to the citizens of Pike County that I would do everything that I could to help rebuild our county to safety. This Baptism is a part of that promise.”

Chief Deputy Gatlin recently partnered with Dr. Takesha Isaac at Osyka Elementary School, where he met with 4th and 5th-grade students to discuss the serious issue of cyberbullying and the importance of speaking up when something does not feel right.

During his visit, he emphasized personal responsibility and safety, reinforcing the powerful message: “See something, say something.” His warm, approachable, and friendly manner created a comfortable environment for students to ask questions and engage openly. By doing so, he helped students view law enforcement as trusted partners within their community.

Chief Deputy Gatlin’s visit not only strengthened positive relationships between students and law enforcement, but also empowered young people to make safe and responsible choices—both online and in their daily lives.

We are proud of his leadership and dedication to serving beyond the badge.

Due to the projected inclement and extremely cold weather, I ask that everyone remain safe and exercise caution over the next several days.

My team and I are here to serve you in any way we can; however, we respectfully ask that you limit travel as much as possible. Unnecessary travel increases the risk of accidents and could place our men and women in harm’s way while responding to avoidable situations.

As your Sheriff, your safety is my number one priority.

Please stay safe and look out for one another.

Citizens of Pike County,

We apologize for the late post, but we have been extremely busy over the past weekend responding to severe storms and rising floodwaters across our county. I am thankful to report that everyone was rescued safely, and there have been no reported injuries.

I want to personally thank the citizens of Pike County who stepped up without hesitation to help their neighbors during this time of need. Your willingness to lend a hand truly shows what kind of community we live in.

I would also like to recognize and thank Ms. Tina Reed, our Emergency Management Director, for putting in countless hours to keep our county informed and safe.

A special thank you goes to Pike County Supervisor Jake Gazzo and the rest of the Pike County Board of Supervisors for their support throughout this emergency.

Thank you to the McComb Fire Department, all of our county volunteer fire departments, and their strike team for working tirelessly during these dangerous conditions.

I want to give a very special shout-out to Sheriff Jason Ard of the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Department.

It is important for the public to understand how the Parish/County Line Task Force works together to support one another in times of crisis. Later in the day, much of our volunteer fire department equipment began failing due to overuse. We reached out to Sheriff Ard, and within hours he sent boats and his team. Their equipment and personnel were absolutely crucial in rescuing citizens during the night hours in both Pike County and Walthall County.

I am extremely thankful for Sheriff Ard and his team. This is what happens when agencies work together with one goal in mind—making sure everyone is taken care of.

Pike County is a proud member of the Parish/County Line Task Force, and we will continue to be a member of that task force as long as Sheriff Jones has a say.

Once again, thank you to everyone who showed up, stepped up, and helped during this emergency. My hat’s off to each and every one of you.

Thank you, and God bless.
— Sheriff Wally Jones

The Pike County Sheriff’s Office respectfully honors the life and service of K-9 Hercules, affectionately known as Herc.

In 2021, Detective Brandi DeMoll, Herc’s K-9 handler, received a heat alarm system for Herc through the generosity of an anonymous donor. This ACE K-9 Hot-N-Pop Pro system provided essential protection throughout Herc’s years of dedicated service.

After Hercules retired in 2024, he remained a beloved member of our agency and community. Following his untimely passing in 2025, Detective DeMoll chose to continue Herc’s legacy by donating the heat alarm system to future K-9 Deputy Codi Whittington, ensuring it will protect another loyal four-legged deputy.

To further honor his memory, Sheriff Bryant “Wally” Jones and the entire Pike County Sheriff’s Office created a special decal recognizing Hercules’ unwavering dedication, loyalty, and commitment. His service will never be forgotten, and his legacy lives on through those who follow in his pawprints.

The Pike County Sheriff’s Office, under the leadership of Sheriff Bryant “Wally” Jones, is proud to announce the ongoing upgrade of its vehicle fleet.

This upgraded fleet represents the best in safety, performance, and technology — ensuring that deputies have the reliable tools they need to serve and protect the citizens of Pike County more effectively.

Sheriff Jones emphasized that this initiative is not just about new vehicles, but about enhancing response times, improving officer safety, and strengthening community trust. Each addition to the fleet reflects the department’s unwavering commitment to excellence and its dedication to providing top-tier service to every resident of Pike County.

“We take great pride in making sure our deputies have the very best equipment available,” said Sheriff Jones. “This investment ensures that we can respond swiftly, safely, and efficiently — keeping Pike County a safe place to live, work, and raise a family.”
