Special Response Team (SRT)
Mission
The mission of the Special Response Team (SRT) is to support the Sheriff's Office with a tactical response to critical incidents. Utilization of the Special Response Team will be in specialized situations including, but no limited to, the following:
Execution of High Risk Arrest Warrants
Execution of High Risk Search Warrants
Hostage Taking Situations
Downed Officer Rescue
Special Event Security
Requests for assistance from other Agencies
Disaster Response
Surveillance
VIP Protection
Search and Rescue
Situations dictated by the Team Commander, Chief Deputy, or Sheriff
The Pike County Sheriff's Office SRT is equipped and trained to respond to tactical situations. As is the case with any division of the Pike County Sheriff's Office, the successful and safe resolution of any incident is paramount. Team members train continually in the use of special weapons and tactics so that they are well prepared for situations which cannot be effectively dealt with by Patrol Deputies.
The Pike County Sheriff's Office Special Response Team (SRT) is a part time unit staffed by patrol deputies and detectives from the Sheriff's Office. The team leaders report to the team commander. Each team member must be able to pass certain abilities tests. including but not limited to emergency first aid, tactics, and weapons proficiency.
Members of the team have been trained by instructor from the National Tactical Officers Association, the Safariland Training Group, the Regional Counterdrug Training Academy, and the Columbia Law Enforcement Training Academy.
The team participated in search and rescue operations in the aftermath of the Walthall County tornado event, and also helped with evacuation efforts during the Smitty's Fire in Roseland, Louisiana.
