Sheriff Bryant “Wally” Jones, along with members of the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, was proud to participate in Southwest Health’s America’s 250 Celebration, joining community partners and families for a day of patriotism, fellowship, and fun.

The Sheriff’s Office set up an informational booth where deputies had the opportunity to engage with citizens, share information about the services the agency provides, and strengthen relationships with the community. One of the highlights of the day was putting smiles on the faces of children by handing out stuffed animals and interacting with families throughout the event.

Sheriff Jones believes that building trust begins with being present in the community and creating positive experiences for our youth.

“We are honored to support events that bring our community together,” said Sheriff Jones. “America’s 250 Celebration is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our nation’s history while strengthening the partnerships that make Pike County such a special place to live.”

The Pike County Sheriff’s Office extends its appreciation to Southwest Health for hosting this outstanding community celebration and for its continued commitment to serving the citizens of our area.

As we celebrate the birth of our great nation this Fourth of July, I want to wish every resident and visitor in Pike County a safe, happy, and blessed Independence Day.

The Fourth of July is a time to gather with family and friends, enjoy cookouts, fireworks, and create lasting memories. While we celebrate the freedoms we enjoy as Americans, I ask everyone to make safety your top priority.

If you’re traveling over the holiday weekend, please buckle up, obey the speed limit, avoid distractions, and never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Designate a sober driver or make arrangements to get home safely. One responsible decision can save countless lives.

If your plans include spending time on the Bogue Chitto River, nearby lakes, or any other waterways, please practice safe boating. Always wear a properly fitted life jacket, never operate a boat while impaired, and be mindful of changing water conditions. Keep a close eye on children at all times, as rivers and waterways can become dangerous in an instant.

For those enjoying ATVs or recreational vehicles, wear a helmet and appropriate safety gear, stay off public roadways unless permitted by law, operate at safe speeds, and supervise young riders. Safety should always come before adventure.

If you’re spending time around a swimming pool, remember that children should never be left unattended—not even for a moment. Drowning can happen silently and quickly. Keep constant adult supervision, secure pools with proper fencing and locked gates, and make sure inexperienced swimmers wear approved flotation devices.

If you plan to enjoy fireworks, please follow all local and state laws, keep a safe distance, and never allow young children to handle fireworks without close adult supervision.

The men and women of the Pike County Sheriff’s Office will be working throughout the holiday weekend to help keep our community safe. We are honored to serve you, and we ask for your partnership by making smart, responsible decisions.

Let’s celebrate our nation’s independence with gratitude, kindness, and a commitment to protecting one another. Together, we can ensure that everyone returns home safely to the people who love them.

This meaningful event brought our community together in prayer, unity, and hope as we sought God’s blessings over Pike County and all who live and serve here.
